GIVEAWAY!!!!!

I absolutely swear this is not an April Fools Day prank. That would be far too cruel. One of my rules to live by: never come between a quilter and his/her free fabric. I have no desire to find myself on the blogging blacklist...

I was actually going to wait until my 50th post to do a giveaway, but I changed my mind and decided to do it now. Who the heck wants to be conventional? Certainly not me. So, to celebrate the most worthy month of April, I am giving away some Heather Bailey Freshcut fabrics. One lucky grand prize winner will receive all four of the fat quarters show below. I have been working with these fabrics for a while now, and they are absolutely perfect for spring. They make me think of Easter. In fact, every time I sew with them I start humming the Peter Cottontail song. Without fail.

So here's how this is going to go. Leave me a comment about something. I don't care what, but try to make it semi-interesting...I'm going to read these after all! Make sure you include some way for me to get in contact with you. Additionally, if you blog about this on your site, add a link to the post and I'll give you an extra entry. I'll leave the entries open until 11:59 pm Eastern time on Monday April 6th. I'll randomly pick and announce the winners on April 7th (seven is my lucky number, so I thought that would be an auspicious day). So have at it!

Finally, in the spirit of April, I'll leave you with this...

Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote,
And bathed every veyne in swich licour
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his half cours yronne,
And smale foweles maken melodye,
That slepen al the nyght with open ye
(So priketh hem Nature in hir corages),

Here is an interesting story:

In my sophomore year of high school, I had my brand new Fossil wallet stolen! I had just purchased it and it was $40. Back then, 5 years ago, that was quite a hefty chunk. What am I saying? $40 is still a lot of money to me today! :)

So, it was stolen out of my handbag during one of my classes. When I found out that it was missing, I cried so much! It had my restricted license, boating license, military I.D., school I.D.s, several other important documents and about $150 {why on Earth was I carrying that with me to high school? I am not too sure...}. When I went home that afternoon, I told my family and none of them believed me! They all thought I had lost it, however 5 years later I proved them wrong!

My sister is an English teacher at the high school we attended and the resource officer came in one day and threw this old-mildew-smelling wallet on her desk. I am sure yo have figured it out by now - it was my wallet {minus the $$, of course}!!! She called me later that day to inform me of this discovery and I was shocked!!! Typically, in my family, I am always the one that is wrong. So, if I get to take a stab at being right and proving my family that I was right I take it!!!

My sister gave it to me last night and I immediately began to pull old notes from friends, Subway Club cards, pictures, I.D.'s, etc. out. While I was rummaging through it, I remembered that I used to hide money in my wallet in case of emergencies that I would forget about. So, I began heavily searching through it and found not $5, but $10!!! I was so excited and I still am!!!

While this whole comment may seem weird to most people, I just wanted to enlighten you about this little blessing that happened to me! :)

Oh, pick me! I want to win!

I too, came here from Sew Mama Sew's twitter announcement. That thing is handy isn't it? Interesting story? I don't know that I have one, except that I've known my husband since I was a freshman in high school, fourteen years old, we dated for 11 years before getting married. We have been married for four and a half years, that means we've known each other roughly half our lives and NEVER dated anyone else! Is this a good thing? I used to think so. Oh, and I am TOTALLY a fabricaholic so PLEASE pick me to win those beautiful Heather Bailey fabrics! Thanks.

P.S. I do have another blog: http://sewgoodsewfar.wordpress.com (haha, self promotion at it's best)

Beautiful spring fabric's. I can't wait to get in my garden, yesterday was sunny and semi warm.
So I got all ready to work outside,
I took my shovel and rammed it into the compost heap - and nearly killed myself....looked meltly on top but underneath it's a very solid block of ice. Not time yet.
Back in the house to sew.

Interesting story? I bet you all that I'm the one coming from the farthest away...

Barcelona, Spain!!

If you have any questions about Barcelona, I'm more than willing to answer. Anyone coming over and wanting to go fat-quarter-shopping? I can recommend a bunch of really good fabric stores. Be ware, though: the prizes are NOT AT ALL as they are in the US... Here, you can only find yards for less than 15$ at very special not-so-fancy stores...

That's how lucky you are, gals!!

Thanks for the great giveaway! After what I just told you, I guess you can imagine I would LOVE to win those fat quarters, LOL!!

When I was in college, too many years ago, my roommate and I thought we were so sophisticated and cultured. I remember walking through the campus reciting the T.S. Eliot poem The Waste Land.

The beginning of the poem is:

APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire, stirring Dull roots with spring rain.

Of course we were just silly coeds who didn't have a clue.

Now living in Western NY I have experience the cruelty and beauty of April.

Came via sew mama sew tweet. Any comment huh. Well I am so tired, My husband shattered his leg two Saturdays ago while out riding at the local motocross track. Currently I am taking care of him(by the way we live in a 2 story) so he is unable to come up stairs. See he has a external fixater on his leg until they can go forth of surgery to pin his leg below the knee back together. Plus homeschooling our five wonderful children. But I guess I wouldn't want it any other way.
Thanks for the give away. Have a great April 1.

Great giveaway!
An interesting story....hmmm...
When I was pregnant with my daughter my due date was April 21 and my doctor told me at my 34 week appointment that I looked like I could go have the baby any day. I wasn't big, but had dropped quite a bit. When I told my mom she said, "I don't care when you have the baby as long as it's not April 1st." Well of course my daughter was born on April 1st. She's 12 today!

Sam said...

So, first, I have you at my blog at http://www.againmommy.blogspot.com but as for interesting comments I am going to comment on others comments. So, when I was in High School my purse was stolen. It was a small purse/big wallet with strap. Someone found it and I was called to the principal's office and get this - they found it in the boy's bothroom toilet and they accused me of putting it there! I just laughed when they did and asked them if they really thought I went into the boy's bathroom to put my own purse in the toilet. Dumb. Second note, for Rachael Adele, if you like Chuck Norris, we just bought the Chuck Norris Vs. Mr.T. 400 unauthorized facts about them. It was so laugh out loud funny. Like the original alphabet only included M, R, and T. Other letters were later added to decide things not so awesome. They have one just on Chuck Norris too. Hope that was interesting enough. :)

Loving the random comments - the Chuck Norris stuff is cracking me up. My random comment is that my husband is seriously, SERIOUSLY upset with me because I painted our front door Tricycle Red yesterday. I think it looks fab, but he disagrees...

Love those Heather Bailey FQs - you are a generous gal!

I guess this isn't THAT interesting, but my daughter was born on my Birthday 2 1/2 yrs. ago. She was 9 days late, and I'm convinced that she waited! We are having a little ceremony this year, because she wil be 3 and I will be 40 (eek!) and I'm passing my Birthday on to her. I will be 40 forever. :) I would love to make her something for her with these!

I want to put my name in. Those are actually my favorites of the Freshcut line. I love me some Freshcut.

Well... it is raining here today and yesterday and maybe tomorrow. Unusual kind of but we need it. It is hard to keep an 18 month old occupied when we can't go outside. So when me and the baby girl were laying down for a nap (it was raining - yes I took a nap with her today) - my parents called. They wanted to take me and baby girl to lunch. uhhhh yea. So when we got up we met them for lunch. And they asked if they could take her home with them to stay the night (she stays with the all of the time) but this was a surprise. YEA! To make things better... I got home all by my lonesome... and my Anna Maria multi-tasker bag pattern was in the mailbox. Oh yea.

Wishing everyone happy surprises today!

Oooh - I'm here from SMS as well - and I love your title "Ripping Out Seams" - my boyfriend thinks my creative process (which takes over our apartment) is hilarious as it tends to include more taking things apart than putting them together sometimes. Also, I totally appreciate these giveaways on April 1st - I tend to hate this "holiday" as I think some spite left over from elementary school makes me think it can generally just be quite mean! The fabric is wonderfully spring-y!

I read your blog faithfully and was surprised to read about the give-a-way. My interesting story is that I love fabric and apparently it is an trait that is passed on to my off-spring because my daughter seems to love fabric and quilting as much as I do. You know that saying...the one who dies with the most fabric wins...well their off-spring inherits the bounty!!

Those are nice fabrics. They's look pretty in a quilt. I usually use flannel receiving blanket as material for quilts. I cut my suares out of them. I can get new or like new ones cheap at yard sales and they are so soft. I try to use patterns that aren't babyish.

I would like to leave my comment, I'm not in the States, so I presume I'm off the list for accepting this lovely gift. My day has been interesting (for a change), I had a makeup party, we all learnt how to do smoky eyes, and I am feeling very glamorous now. Its how we should all feel when we are stuck in the rut of being Mum, cleaner and taxi driver. I would like everyone that has left a comment to receive free fat quarters, but theres only one winner. Make yourself that winner by passing on receiving and giving to someone else ! Its always a blessing to give.

I have been reminiscing about April Fool's Day, to the one time that I actually planned out a prank. It was in high school and was pretty awesome--we got random teachers and counselors to pull out each of our classmates in our Junior year English class until only three people were left with the teacher. Luckily, he had a good sense of humor about it.

Love the fabrics!

such beautiful fabric to give away! I dont know how you are able to let it go.

an interesting tidbit- i cant sew with a shoe on my right (pedal) foot. I was over at my friends house this week sewing her daughter's first communion dresses (which she keeps telling people she made....she cut out some of the pieces she tells them after she notices me looking at her) and she couldnt stop laughing at me walking around her house with my sock and tennis shoe on my left foot and my bare right foot. Even when I take sewing classes I have to wear sandals so that I slip my bare foot onto the pedal without everyone noticing.

Your birthday is April 7th?! Mine is April 9th! Do you find that, without fail, there is always someone who has a birthday close to/on your birthday? All my life, in school, in college, and the few years out of college there has always been someone to share the excitement. Now, not saying this is necessarily a good thing - birthdays are supposed to be *your* special day, and no one else's! Maybe April is just a very popular month?

And to keep pride at bay, if one year there is no one else in my immediate realm with a close birthday, then my birthday is probably on Easter. The ultimate day of not-being-selfish! I think this is God's way of telling me that life is not about me...

Can you relate at all? What am I saying, I bet you can since your birthday is also April!

PS - Love your blog!

I love Heather Bailey's fabric (and hair ties too)....
A matter of fact I have been a fan of Heather Bailey for some time now. I haven't been blogging long....it will be a year come end of June. I have always loved reading blogs, but never had one of my own. A friend of mine talked me into getting one and when it came time, that I agreed to do so, I chose Typepad because Heather Bailey used them. I figured if Heather thought they were a good blog base, then that was the one I wanted to use. Then when I was entertaining the idea of selling my art and crafts on line, I thought about using Etsy. I even joined them using my blog name for my account. I still have that account, but when I was totaling up the cost to sell on Etsy, I new I couldn't afford them. I would have to sell my products at such a high cost just to break even, let alone make any kind of profit. No one would ever buy. So, again I looked to Heather for insperation. When she started out, she was selling out of her blog. Now, after great success, she has her own website, but still she has her Typepad blog. I can't afford to buy my own website. So like Heather, I added a shop to my Typepad blog. My shop is The Blue Nest. http://robinsbluenest.typepad.com/the_blue_nest/
It's not much, and I don't expect to ever be as successful as Heather, but it's something new for me to explore and have fun with.

Hope your day is beautiful...
Robin

BTW...I love that Lars pencil case.

I'll share one of my favorite spring poems, by Langston Hughes:

In Time of Silver Rain

In time of silver rain
the earth
puts forth new life again,
green grasses grow
and flowers lift their heads,
and over all the plain
the wonder spreads
Of Life,
Of Life,
Of life!
In time of silver rain
the butterflies
lift silken wings
to catch a rainbow cry,
and trees put forth
new leaves to sing
in joy beneath the sky
as down the roadway
passing boys and girls
go singing, too,
in time of silver rain
When spring
and life
are new.

(p.s. I love that fabric!)

This is interesting if you have rabbits, but otherwise probably not so much.

I have had bunnies as pets for 20 years, and now and then would see advice, "Keep your rabbits away from raccoons," which I never thought of much because I either had indoor bunnies or lived where there were not raccoons. Then I moved to my new place, which is a bit in the country, and my bunny would escape under the fence and go hang out in my neighbor's yard which in unfenced and pretty rustic. After the first summer of him living as a free spirit (it proved pretty difficult to keep him in my yard), he developed head tilt. Which mean he lost his balance frequently, and would roll over, and keep his head cocked to the side because he was always dizzy. It turns out the reason raccoons are bad for bunnies is that they poo on the grass bunnies eat, the bunnies eat the grass, and raccoons have an intestinal parasite harmless to the raccoon but which gravitates to the bunny's brain and lives there with bad results.

So that's why you keep rabbits away from raccoons! I wish I would have known that in advance. I just thought if raccoons were mean, the bunnies could run away.
