May Giveaway Day

I just couldn't resist joining in the fun...

Here's what you get:
  1. A prototype of my Strip Tease Bag. Disclaimer...its not perfect, I had to work out a few kinks, but I still think its really cute.
  2. A half yard of this Alexander Henry semi-naked man fabric.
A second winner will receive a half yard of the Alexander Henry fabric as well.

Here's what you have to do:
  1. Leave one and only one comment by MAY 31. Leaving two messes up the way I plan to generate the random winner.
  2. Include in your comment the name of a musician or band that you would recommend. I'm on the prowl for new music and this seemed like a great opportunity to pick people's brains!
  3. Make sure I have a way to contact you.
  4. Finally, you have to live in the US. Sorry international friends, but this will be heavy enough that I really don't want to ship internationally.

Here's my sample entry...

Hi, I'm Kat. I would recommend The Derek Trucks Band. They're an amazing band with a fusion of styles including rock, blues, and Indian music. I have a blogger profile with contact info listed, so you can find me there!

Thanks for stopping by, and thanks in advance for the recommendations!

Good music???? Let me think..... Okay my brain is starting to fry...

I have two little girls and what we can all agree on is old musicals. You know the sound of music, petes dragon, annie... I know I am not much help, but after a while, they always make me smile.

What a cute tote and I love the naked man fabric. You can always get ahold of me on my blog kamisquilting@blogspot.com

Hi,
I can share my favorite pastime for finding new music:
I go to amazon, look up an artist I like, then look towards the bottom of the page where it says 'people who purchase this also purchased...'
I've found allot of lesser known goodies that way. Of course, they end up being more well known later :) then it's not "my music" anymore, and it's time to find new ones!

I'm Jen. New music...Anni DiFranco is one I'd like to get some more of myself.

indywriter said...

Hello! I'm indywriter and I love all kinds of music. I'm currently listening to a mix CD including Audio Adrenaline, Harry Belafonte, the soundtrack from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the Muppets Greatest Hits. This may have something to do with my kids. When I craft I like soundtracks (like Pride and Prejudice), Enya, and my MP3 player (you know, so I can eliminate the songs on CDs that I only tolerate to get to the songs I really like). Also Loreena McKennitt is nice for working to.

Anonymous said...

Ok so call me old fashioned but I love the old rock and roll bands. Three Dog Night, Steppenwolf, but I crave Carol King over all of those.

I feel like this is a "cheater" recommendation, but recently I've b een listening to the soundtrack of the Buffy musical episode a lot. :P Also I really like Putumayo compilations--Turkish Groove is an especial favorite. And if you prefer Latin fusion to Middle Eastern fusion, Ojos de Brujo is kind of amazing.

OK, that recommendation didn't actually suck.

fabriclover said...

My fav is the Wailin Jennys but you already know about them. The bag is very cute!

Liz B. said...

That fabric is hilarious! What a great giveaway!
It's tough to recommend music when I don't know the type of style you prefer, but I'll pick something at random from my favs. I saw a folsky indie sort of lady when I was in college, and she seems to have remained kind of unknown. Her name is Kris Delmhorst and the album I have is Appetite. Her voice is human sounding but lovely, and her lyrics are unbelievable. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway!

Jennifer said...

Check out Relient K. I love their fun songs, like Mood Rings, Maybe It's Maybelline, and College Kids. Hilarious!

Sam said...

So, this person isn't new but has been on hiatus for 8 years and I am totally excited for the new cd. Its Maxwell. He's considered R and B, I think. He's very soulful and sexy. I would try his first cds first since I don't know if the new one is good yet. :)

Barbara said...

I LOVE the fabric. The strip bag looks great to me.
the only newer music I have been listening to is Ocean the Legend. My cousin is in the band, they are pretty good.

What a fun question to ask! Lately I've been listening to Sufjan Stevens a lot. It's great sewing music if you ask me. Other faves: The Weepies, Robinella, and Andrew Peterson. I like smart lyrics with a bit of quirk. (Or a lot of quirk in some cases!)

Thanks for the great giveaway! The man fabric is hilarious! I've already got a project planned.....

Death Cab for Cutie
Iron and Wine
Bob Marley
Radiohead
Feist
Ben Folds
Beirut
Band of Horses
The Postal Service
and Ray Lamontagne
Hope that wasn't music overload ;)

I have contact info on my blogger profile.

Love the bag! Here's hoping I win.

Ali said...

I loved the color combination you used for that bag, but I have to admit I am lusting after that Alexander Henry fabric.
Right now, I am really digging the Shout Out Louds (they make me think of a happy Cure) and Phantom Planet. My tastes tend toward Death Cab for Cutie, ColdPlay, Snow Patrol, that type of thing.

Melissa said...

Oh my half naked man wow! I have never seen that fabric before and can think of at least a half a dozen things to do with it. For example:

1. make my husband a dickie. (ok kidding)
2. make my husband a tie. (again, not really)
3. make a beach cover up for my lovely lady rump.
4. sew it secretly into a quilt.
5. add it to a quilt back (to make someone laugh)
6. I think it would make an awesome coffee sleeve...
7. applique it into a journal with some witty comment.

As far as music goes, I listen to all sorts, but I really like my newish Lenka CD. Also, I am Nicklecreek's #1 fan. All of their CDs are amazing! Amazing!

All I ever seem to listen to are groups that are already popular. That, or 80s. Have you checked out Pat Benatar? Or ABBA? Those are good fun!

A band I'd recommend...George Strait, Keith Urban, Dave Matthews Band, Taylor Swift, Nickleback, hmmm there's just so many to choose from. As you can tell, I'm into all sorts of music: country, rock, pop, r&b, it's all good to me!

Wow, that's a tough one. I like your bag, first of all. That would look nice for dress up or down. As far as music, I listen to everything under the sun. We like our swing and 30's 40's and 50's music. Since I was born to hippies, of course I love everything from the 60's. I was little in the disco era, so I love me some Bee Gee's and ABBA. Was a teenager in the 80's so I like Punk, New Wave, headbanger...EVERYTHING.

I can't think of one single band you should listen to, off the top of my head. Right now, I like the Killers and my kids like Relient K. I also like Coldplay. Did I spell that right? I'm so outta the loop. I listen to what my kids tell me I'm going to listen to.

Take care. I enjoyed your blog. I'll be back..
